Item #31
“Captivated” – Original Art Quilt by Maria Elkins
A truly exceptional piece of original fiber art, “Captivated” by award-winning fiber artist Maria Elkins is a stunning 4′ x 6′ art quilt that blends portraiture, storytelling and extraordinary textile craftsmanship. Elkins has spent more than 20 years exploring innovative ways to depict people and portraits through the textile medium. Captivated beautifully demonstrates that artistry, depicting a woman engrossed in a book as the story seemingly comes to life around her. Layer upon layer of fabric, stitching, color and texture create remarkable depth and detail, from the expressive portrait to the horses emerging from the pages and the richly rendered landscape beyond.
This substantial work measures approximately 48″ x 72″ and is equally at home displayed as a dramatic piece of fine art as it is appreciated for the extraordinary fiber techniques used in its creation. Generously donated from the art collection of Pat Russell, a longtime Severance, CO resident, Captivated comes with its original documentation and current valuation paperwork.
Rarely does an original work of this caliber become available through a charitable auction. This is a unique opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind artwork by an award-winning fiber artist while supporting two organizations dedicated to serving the Northern Colorado community. Appraised value: $6,250.
NO RESERVE – Bidding Starts on October 15th, and Closes October 24th at 9pm MST.
